Oral thin films (OTFs) are consumed by placing the thin, flexible strip under or on the tongue or inner cheek, where it dissolves in saliva without water. Main consumption methods include placing it on the tongue (orodispersible), under the tongue (sublingual), or against the cheek (buccal), facilitating rapid absorption.

Sublingual (Under the Tongue): The film is placed under the tongue for rapid absorption directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and avoiding first-pass metabolism. Onset Time: 8-12 minutes

Buccal (Inside the Cheek): The film is placed against the cheek mucosa, allowing for a slower, controlled release and direct absorption through the mucosal membrane. Onset Time: 10-14 minutes

Orodispersible/Orally Dissolving (On the Tongue): The film is placed on the tongue, where it disintegrates in several seconds. The drug is then swallowed and absorbed in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.Onset Time: 35-50 minutes
